As part of the IMUSA 15-point core curriculum, students learn how to facilitate healthy attachment and bonding through nurturing and compassionate touch between parents, families, and their infants and children. The course presents the following concentrations specifically relevant to infant massage and parent education: Infant massage strokes, Infant cues and communication, a spectrum of clinical benefits, relevant research abstracts, group facilitation, teaching skills, approaches for the growing child, adaptations for the infant with special needs and program marketing. Certification qualifies the student to demonstrate knowledge and skill in guiding parents and families in the practical application of infant massage. Educators of infant massage guide parents & caregivers how to massage their children in group and private classes. This is not a hands-on-baby course. Trainers, Educators & Students use baby dolls to practice & demonstrate strokes. This course includes 3 books: Parent Educator's Manual, Infant Massage: A Handbook for Loving Parents, and a workbook that includes comprehensive up-to-date course materials. The student will experience a supervised parent-baby class, receive first year's membership with the IMUSA and the Trainer is committed to the certification process for each student. Certification earns the individual internationally recognized status. The title "Certified Educator of Infant Massage" is granted after attending and participating in the full 4-day course, fulfilling verified practicum hours and successfully completing a take-home exam. This class, along with the take home exam and practicum hours, is eligible for 56 continuing education hours through the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).
