Our People: NHI Alumni Success Stories...

Hi my name is John Lambert. I am a graduate from NHI the former group 15, Friday, Saturday, Sunday night program.  I completed my massage training in July of 2002.  I became interested in massage due to several of my friends having various aches and pains in their daily lives and I thought someone should help them.  Then the idea occurred to me, why can’t I help them.  So I looked in the phone book and found NHI.

Previously I worked in the stand by generator field and spent long hours on the road and traveling to remote places all over California. I had little time for personal interaction and I was looking for something to fill that part of my life. Massage fit in nicely. What really attracted me to NHI was the convenience of schedule, and the quality of the instructors.

I would have to say my favorite part of the program was clinic. This was where I got the chance to show my skills to the public.  It was clear when I was working why I decided to become a massage therapist. You could see immediately that you were helping your client and that it made a big difference in there life.

After Graduating NHI I continued to develop my private practice and I became Nationally Certified in 2003. After my family made the move to the Sacramento area I had the opportunity to teach massage and run a massage program. I attended a council on schools event for AMTA and had the opportunity to have lunch with Sandy Fritz, a renowned text book author, and Jean Shea, the founder of Biotone. Now I am an Assistant Clinic Administrator and Regional Trainer for Massage Envy for Northern California covering an area from the east bay to Reno/Tahoe. I was recently appointed to the AMTA California chapter board as third vice president and I am dedicated to helping my fellow therapists as well as my current clients.  What impresses me the most about the Massage Therapy field is how everyone I have encountered is willing to help you out with advice and tell you stories of their experiences.

One bit of advice I would give to therapists entering the profession is do not lose sight of the big picture. We are here to help people, and earn a wage for ourselves at the same time. If you can keep your ego in check your possibilities are endless.  One instructor told me, “Now that you’ve completed NHI, your education has just begun”.  Always strive to make yourself better!

Thanks to the NHI faculty and staff.  You made a difference in my life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world!
