Going to NHI was one of the smartest decisions I have made in my life. NHI set me up for success as a Massage Therapist. The curriculum and teachers are knowledgeable, caring, supportive and have high integrity. My mentor in the program, Jennifer Kartiganer, was someone I learned so much from not only about massage, but about life as well. Massage is life. A Massage Therapist can only be as good as they are in their life in general. NHI is an integrative program. NHI doesn't just give you information and then sends you on your way, there is a deep transformation that happens. It's mind, body, and spirit. It trains you to be a channel for healing, not to be a robot who knows some impressive moves. It combines education with spirituality in a way that is applicable. What most impressed me was the integrity of the education. There is only so much in massage that can be taught, the rest is experience, talent and intuition, and NHI taught me how to be a very professional, educated, receptive and attentive Massage Therapist. I felt prepared and confident when I graduated.
I now work at the Ritz-Carlton Spa in Half Moon Bay as a full-time Massage Therapist and have been working there for 2 years. At one point I was the Lead Massage Therapist for about 8 months and decided to step down to my original position to in order to focus on other things. I have a great schedule, full benefits, fun co-workers, good pay, and a career that allows me to be creative and give to people in a meaningful way. Being able to contribute to the well being of people and the planet is very rewarding. My job allows me to be part of the solution and not the problem. I am being the change I want to see in the world.
There is a noticeable change in people when they leave the massage table. Sometimes they don't even look like the same person. Being able to hold the space for that person to heal whatever is taking their smile away is an amazing feeling. For me, the massage is not about me or my talents or even trying to "impress" someone with a great massage. For me it's about being of service to the other person. It's about being receptive to what that person needs in order to feel more free and at peace in their body and mind.
NHI allowed me to develop skills so I can assist other people in transformation and I am very grateful for it. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
